Gargoyle Greeting Cards

Fine art greeting cards of gargoyles and humourous grotesque carvings

Over the course of the last 8 years exploring historic buildings around Britain I must have taken photos of hundreds of funny and just plain peculiar carvings. Here are a few of my favourites.

Fine art greeting cards of funny gargoyles, 10 for £25.95

I try not to be too pedantic about architectural terms, but no doubt some erudite reader will point out that these are not actually gargoyles! Technically, a gargoyle is a carving with a water spout through it, whereas all the peculiar carvings I use for my ‘gargoyle’ cards are in fact ‘grotesques’, which are, well, grotesque creatures and odd carvings without any practical purpose beyond decoration. Cards are in a 5×7 format, with the interiors left blank so you can write your own message. You may want to use the cards as ready-made artwork by getting an inexpensive pre-made frame and matt with a 5×7 opening for the image.
