THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPH
Newgale Sands is a small beach on St Bride's Bay, on the south west coast Pembrokeshire, south of Solva. I was staying with my family in a cottage at nearby Nolton. On this April evening the sky was relatively clear so I decided to drive to the beach. To my surprise my son, then aged 14, decided to come with me. I thought he'd be bored as I explored the shore and tidepools, but he seemed to be enjoying himself, even though the temperature dipped to an uncomfortably low level as the wind grew stronger. I got this photo before I decided that I needed to get him back to the warmth of our cottage. I love the way the ebb and flow of the tide has created a soft, painterly effect over the beach and the two small stones in the foreground.
